National
Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities’ California
State Resources page will help you locate organizations and
agencies with California that address disability-related issues,
including:
- State agencies serving children and youth
with disabilities
- State chapters of disability organizations
and parent groups
- Parent training and information projects
- And much more, including the official State
Web site, Governors and U.S. Senators, and other useful
associations and organizations.
California Department of Education links

Tri-Counties
Regional Center is a not-for-profit
company that "provide supports and services for children and adults
with developmental disabilities living in San Luis Obispo, Santa
Barbara and Ventura Counties. They will provide initial intake and
eligibility services to the following persons upon request...any
infant believed to have a significant developmental delay; any
infant believed to have an established risk condition; and/or any
infant having a high risk of becoming developmentally disabled." See

Early Start provides
services for children with or at risk of developmental delay or
disability. Teams of service coordinators, healthcare providers,
early intervention specialists, therapists, and parent resource
specialists can evaluate and assess an infant or toddler and provide
appropriate early intervention services to children eligible for
California Early Start.
California Children Services is a
statewide program that treats children with certain physical
limitations and chronic health conditions or diseases.

Parents
Helping Parents "is a 27-year-old
nonprofit, family resource center that benefits families of children
with special needs." They offer wonderful workshops, training
classes, and networking opportunities for parents of children with
special needs.
Alpha Center of Santa Barbara
provides "a variety of resources for people with developmental
disabilities of all ages."

Team of
Advocates for Special Kids: Yolanda McAlpine is the local
advocate and she does a wonderful job helping parents get services
for their children. She's well versed in the laws and
requirements and can help ensure you get everything your child is

Protection & Advocacy, Inc's tagline is
"advancing the human and legal rights of people with disabilities."
Wrights Law is a great site
for learning about the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process--a
must see if you want more to get more out of the IEP process.

Diet:
Baby Bites is both a
book and website providing help with "transforming a picky eater
into a healthy eater". The book promises, "In only 7 days,
your finicky child will be tasting new foods." They also have
an "ezine" newsletter you can sign up for to stay up-to-date with
the latest nutritional information.
Good Baker sells vegan (yes, vegan) gourmet whole-grain cookies,
brownies, muffins, cakes, etc. Their products have won
multiple awards and exceptionally delicious.

Partners in Education Online Course
is a FREE self-study course for parents of children with
disabilities. It was developed to give parents practical
information on how to navigate the special education programs for
their children. Included is information on the history of education
of children with disabilities, key laws governing special education,
and how to advocate for your child. Simply click on the link to

started their web site to help parents, teachers, therapists,
doctors and others learn about and understand Sensory Processing
Disorders. Available here is in-depth information for parents,
educators, and therapists and other professionals on all aspects of
sensory processing. This site also provides referral to

Directory and information on support groups at
SPD
Parent Connections.
Sensory Integration International (SII) is
a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation concerned with the impact of
sensory integrative problems on people's lives. Their goal is to
improve quality of life for persons with sensory processing
disorders by advocating early intervention to prevent sensory
inefficiencies that have the potential of contributing to
debilitating social or health conditions. They also have a

Autism Research Institute (ARI), a
non-profit organization, was established in 1967. ARI is primarily
devoted to conducting research, and to disseminating the results of

diagnosing and treating autism and other severe behavioral disorders
of childhood. We provide information based on research to parents
and professionals throughout the world.
First Signs, Inc. is a national non-profit
organization dedicated to educating parents and physicians about the
