Signs and Symptoms of Sensory Disorders

Physical signs:

  • Poor balance

  • Poor coordination

  • Poor visual tracking skills

  • Difficulty reading

  • Poor sleep-wake patterns

  • Shallow breathing

  • Irregular muscle tone

  • Difficulty with handwriting

  • Exerts too much effort in a given task

Emotional or Social Signs:

  • Impulsive/stubborn

  • Difficulty adapting to a new routine or change in routine

  • Unusual response to touch

  • Over or under attentiveness to visual stimuli

  • issues with self-regulation, i.e., difficulty with calming self

  • Restlessness/overly active - "always on the move"
